With the upcoming elections, various groups and associations express their support for certain candidates across the state. The Utah Optometric Association supports Jack Draxler for state representative in District 3 (North Logan, Hyde Park, Smithfield, Richmond, Lewiston- see map). Since I live in Smithfield, the UOA asked me to present Mr. Draxler with a check for $175. I also threw in a small contribution of $25.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Draxler today. My interpretation of our conversation is that he is pro-business and free market. The government should only intervene in the interest of public safety. He is pro-education and would like to see the education establishment reform themselves to be more efficient with our tax payer dollars. He is also pro-second amendment.

Qualifications

• Former Mayor, North Logan City.
• Current Member, Cache County Planning Commission.
• State Republican Central Committee member and County and State Convention Delegate for many years.
• Volunteer service: Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics. Volunteer assistant basketball coach at Utah State University for two years.
• Self-employed private sector businessman.
• High school social studies teacher and basketball coach for seven years.
• Brings new ideas, vision, and enthusiasm into state government.

Goals

• Be accessible to individuals and groups needing issues addressed in the state legislature.
• Provide assertive, hard working representation.
• Be a strong advocate for county and state key issues, namely education, transportation, agriculture, water protection, law enforcement, corrections and social services.
• Work for Utah tax relief.

DRAXLER STATE REP

At Summit Vision Center, I don’t talk politics in the exam room. We welcome patients of all backgrounds and beliefs. As a businessman, I want to support a candidate that would best represent my interests as a businessman, so that’s why I thought I would write this entry about Jack Draxler.
