In Memoriam: Leon M. Hill

Dr. Langford September 7th, 2007

Long time residents of Smithfield may know my Grandpa, Leon M. Hill. He worked at USU in their aviation department for years. I’ve had patients who knew him because as the official pilot for USU, he would take professors and administrators to various locations around the state, country, and even into Mexico.

Leon passed away the night of Tuesday Sept 4th from natural causes. He was about to turn 89 years old later this month. He didn’t wish for a full blown funeral, but his grave side service will be in Ucon, Idaho on Tuesday Sept. 11th at around 2:00 PM. Afterwards we’re all getting together at the old Ucon church and eating funeral potatoes, ham, and stuff.

I’m going to be a pall bearer, and we’re all supposed to wear brown bomber jackets to celebrate his being a pilot in World War II and with USU. If anyone has a jacket of this type that you could lend me, please contact me before Monday.

09-09-2007 Edited to add: Grandpa’s obituary was published in the Deseret News and the Herald Journal.

I look a lot like he did back then.

I should mention that there is a viewing in SLC on Monday 9/10/07 from 6-8PM (Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights) and Tuesday at around 1 PM at the old church in Ucon, ID.
